Keystone Press Agency was founded in Meadville, Pennsylvania, USA in 1892. Taking on the official nickname of the state of Pennsylvania “The Keystone State” and with goal of covering the world via stellar photography and thus become a leading agent to the press, the global media.
From the 1890’s until the early 1980s, the photographers of the legendary press agency followed the progress of the world, its conflicts, its great works, its social movements, its hopes, its progress or its great artists. Their images constitute the visual memory of the 20th century, a unique legacy. The collection includes news and feature photos from all over the world, covering many diverse subjects of international interest including portraits of many of the most notorious personalities of the 20th century. These portraits include images of such people as Sophia Loren, Winston Churchill, and the Dalai Lama. The works are original press photographs printed at the time of the original story, not later reprints.
