Stick ‘em up! / 2020

“This shot was set up because of the irony of the situation…
A woman had stopped at a petrol station and was filling up her car and as we freeze the frame in mid-flight – from the angle we see this happening it appears that she is ‘holding up’ the man opposite her also filling up his car! – this fast reaction of the man to the situation and his obvious sense of humour allowed a connection with her which otherwise could have gone un-noticed!
I set this shot up and photographed it at a country petrol station with trees all around and found the trees distracting so went to the coast and shot a plainer sea & sky background at the same time of day then we took out the trees and replaced them with this seascape that looks much less busy and less complicated.
I shot this photo on the Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera with the 24/70 mm F4 zoom lens.
There is a Polar Bear buried in this photograph!” – Jim Lee
