“This series of shots was photographed as a complex relationship brewing between three women and a man – each with their own complex agenda.

The man is connected to the woman up the stairs on the right – the woman to her left is flirting with the man and the woman on the far left is haranguing the woman on the right.

The location was the back staircase of the Manderin Hotel in Knightsbridge – I chose it because the chevron in the stairwell complimented the period and suited the look of the clothes.

I shot the photograph on a 6×7 format camera and it was published in a newspaper colour supplement.” – Jim Lee
