Almost all-great photographic essays result from a visually compelling subject dovetailed to a passion on the part of the photographer. In the performing arts it is hard to imagine anything having a grander visual splendor than the opera. The bright lights, drama, pageantry and the excitement of the Metropolitan Opera Company are second to none.
Nancy Ellison’s photographic career has spanned several decades and her subjects have included the arts of music, dance, theatre and opera. She is an accomplished celebrity portraitist and photojournalist. Ms. Ellison has many books in print as well and has had many important gallery exhibits.
Holden Luntz Gallery is pleased to be presenting the first gallery exhibition of Ms. Ellison’s photo essays of the Metropolitan Opera ‘In Grand Style’. Along with photography, opera is Ms. Ellison’s passion. She and her husband’s support of the Metropolitan Opera Company have allowed her a privileged access to create an extensive photographic essay of the company’s performances during the last several years.
The photographs are alive with an exuberant vitality and are striking in their compositions and colors. They will delight both opera buffs and fans of photography.
