The work of Bulgarian artist Jacko Ivanov Vassilev
is a celebration of life. His portraiture of fellow Bulgarians
presents us with a full spectrum of emotion, from heartbreak to
joy. Vassilev captures the tumultuous history and political struggles
of this people, together with their strong will and connection
to their culture, with sensitivity and respect. His images of everyday
people and everyday life in provincial towns throughout the rural
countryside are like a journey back into time.
Photographs by Vassilev are created as limited edition silver gelatin
prints, archivally processed by the artist on authentic Bulgarian
